Your table is arranged around you — the tastings, the outings, the long evenings. Good people, welcomed warmly, bringing their best — that is the first rule of the house, and everyone at the table keeps it.
Eight pursuits. One standard. Whatever your game, there's a table here with your name on it. The note on every house in it is kept below, in The Haunts.
The house’s kept notes on its places, gathered here — the record of The Life. The rooms the house favors — the harbors and fairways at the top of the local order. Listings are the house's own selection; no partnership is implied.
Founded 1922 at 1801 Bayside Drive, at the harbor entrance. A dining room and Thursday nights, a cruising fleet and an angling program, and an outstation at White's Cove on Catalina — racing is one strand of the life here, at Newport yachting's oldest guard.

The harbor's old clubhouse at 720 West Bay Avenue — a beach and a guest dock, a bar and dining room through the week, and a junior program that brings young sailors up through the house. A century of Newport summers has passed through these rooms.

Founded 1959 at 1601 Bayside Drive. Jazz and guest speakers on the calendar, a swimming pool, a very active cruising group, and a member-owned 68-slip marina — the club that sets out to be the friendliest on the harbor, and works at meaning it.

The house keeps Newport Beach's season. These are Newport's own published fixtures — the clubs', the city's, the harbor's — and the house gathers around them: evenings on the water, the harbor lit for December, the rooms where the town already meets. Below Newport's own season, we keep a short list from around Newport — a few nights worth the short drive, kept separate and plainly labeled. Nothing here is staged by the house; everything here is worth showing up for.
The season opens here — VEA lights its tree early in the evening, and the town turns out for the first fixture of its December. VEA Newport Beach · Thu, Nov 19 · 5:30–7:30 PM
The following evening Fashion Island lights its tree in the open air — the town's shopping ground dressed for the season, and the most public of the lightings. Fashion Island, Newport Beach · Fri, Nov 20 · 5–7:30 PM
A Sunday market at the resort's Lighthouse — seasonal goods on the waterfront, open to the public and made for wandering into late in the morning. Balboa Bay Resort, Newport Beach · Sun, Nov 22 · 11 AM–2 PM
Thirty-six years in, the Lighting of the Bay is the harbor's own ceremony — opening night brings the Fire & Lights Festival to the Dunes, and from this evening the water stays lit for the season. Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort · Fri, Nov 27 · Festival from 4 PM · The bay lit nightly through Jan 3
Pendry lights its tree the same evening the bay does — two openings in one night, and the season fully under way. Pendry Newport Beach · Fri, Nov 27 · 5–8 PM
The resort's own tree, lit at five on the Sunday — bayside, unhurried, and the last of November's lightings. Balboa Bay Resort, Newport Beach · Sun, Nov 29 · 5 PM
The sixtieth Carol Ball — the Hoag Hospital Foundation's evening, and the formal fixture of the town's December. VEA Newport Beach · Sat, Dec 12 · 5 PM
For the twenty-eighth year the Island opens its decorated houses to the street — a daylight walk at your own pace, and the most neighbourly afternoon of the season. Balboa Island, Newport Beach · Sun, Dec 13 · 11 AM–4 PM
The hundred-and-eighteenth parade — five nights of lit boats on the harbor, out from the tip of Lido Isle at half past six, and the week the whole town arranges its December around. Newport Harbor · Wed–Sun, Dec 16–20 · From 6:30 PM nightly
Just outside Newport — close enough for an evening, kept separate from the town's own season.
Up Laguna Canyon, the Sawdust grounds turn winter fair — five three-day weekends of the festival's artists and makers, and a drive the house counts as part of the pleasure. Sawdust Festival Grounds, Laguna Beach · Opens Fri, Nov 20 · Weekends through Dec 20 · 11 AM–7 PM
American Ballet Theatre's Nutcracker at Segerstrom Hall — seventeen performances across the run, and the one fixture here that rewards booking a seat well ahead. Segerstrom Hall, Costa Mesa · Dec 10–24

Where Newport does business.
The house's running brief on the harbor, the town, and the season — dated, sourced, and kept short. Every item names its source; we never lift another paper's words.
Reading the wire…
House Gentry started with a simple observation: Newport Beach has the best rooms, the best water, and the best light in California — and no single house gathering the people who live for all three. This is that house. Evenings on the harbor, mornings on the fairways, a business table worth sitting at, and two prediction leagues for the joy of calling it right. The first season is being arranged now. Join the list, and we'll see you at the table.
— T. Gentry · Newport Beach
Between gatherings, the house talks in the Forum — the calendar, the harbor, the next table over. Kept as easy as a text thread.
Boat Parade week — December 16 to 20 on the harbor. Who's watching from the water?
Welcome to the Forum. This is where the house makes its plans — keep it lively.
House Gentry opens one city at a time. Newport Beach is first. Founding membership opens soon — join the house list and be first in when the doors open.
