Tennis & Pickleball

Pickleball at golden hour

We like a game that starts on time and ends with a handshake. Newport Beach is unusually well courted — private clubs with full programs and city courts with published open-play hours — and we list both, with the schedules linked at their source so a member can always check the current season before lacing up.

Places to Play

Palisades Tennis Club

Newport Beach

A private tennis club opened in 1974 as the John Wayne Tennis Club, with 16 outdoor courts per court listings. Schedules: the club publishes its program and events pages on its own site.

The Tennis & Pickleball Club at Newport Beach

Newport Beach

A private club with 31 pickleball courts, including a stadium court, and 15 tennis courts, including a European red clay court, per club-published material. Challenge and open play runs all day daily; members reserve courts, with group reservations up to eight courts in 1.5-hour sessions, per the club newsletter. It hosts PPA/APP/MLP and USTA events. Schedules: the club publishes programs and event schedules on its site — the richest schedule source in this category.

Membership & costs

The club publishes two plans — Individual (Single) and Partners (Couple) — and no prices. Joining takes sponsorship by two current members in good standing; applicants without club relationships may receive alternative consideration at the club's discretion, and membership is intentionally limited. Every membership begins with a tour, by appointment only.

Published special: refer a new member within 6 months and your second installment is waived. Published benefits include a food-and-beverage credit, member parking, Friday Night Socials, and injury-status protection on Partners memberships.

Bonita Canyon Sports Park — City of Newport Beach

Newport Beach

City courts with four pickleball courts and two tennis courts, per the City’s own facility site map. Schedules: the City publishes pickleball information on its sports page; the research record’s printed hours are from the Summer 2023 Newport Navigator, so the City page is the current-season source.

Newport Coast Community Center — City of Newport Beach

Newport Coast · Newport Beach

A city community center with three indoor pickleball courts. Schedules: the City publishes indoor drop-in information on its sports page; play is first-come and a drop-in card is required, per the research record.

Bonita Creek Park — City of Newport Beach

Newport Beach

A city park and community center where pickleball is played. No court count is stated, because a third-party count could not be confirmed from a City source.

Costa Mesa Tennis Center (Tennacity Costa Mesa)

Costa Mesa · Just Outside Newport

A City of Costa Mesa facility at TeWinkle Park with 10 tennis courts and eight dedicated pickleball courts. Schedules: it publishes lessons, clinics, leagues and court-reservation information.
